Do plans for the US 219 Somerset to Meyersdale
project affect this project?
No.
Is funding for this project in place?
Yes, funding for the Environmental Impact Study is in place.
Has a determination been made regarding Threatened and Endangered Species?
We are working with the agencies and they have provided lists of Threatened and Endangered species in the area. For instance, we know that the Indiana Bat is a consideration due to habitat in the area. We will continue to evaluate Threatened and Endangered species concerns as the project progresses.
Are wetlands treated the same in Pennsylvania and Maryland?
Yes, both states follow the federal regulations regarding wetlands.
Are weather conditions considered?
Yes.
Does Agricultural land include Maple-producers?
Yes. To date, agricultural land has been identified based on the tax mapping information provided by the County.
Is tillable land given a preference over woodlands?
No, like all issues, it's a balance. We focus on solving the problem. State Act 43 and Act 100 both preserve farmlands, and both are some of the strongest laws in the nation regarding agriculture. Additionally, the Project Team is about to conduct farmer surveys and will work with local farmers throughout the process.
Studies were conducted in the 1960s regarding US 219 in this area. Are those studies and/or alternatives being incorporated into this project?
We are aware that those studies occurred and have the information, but they were not a factor in the current location of the corridors.
