Natural Resources

Natural resources enrich the quality of life by providing recreational activities, fuel sources, wildlife habitat, and aesthetically pleasing surroundings. Preservation of natural resources are initiatives PENNDOT strives to include as part of their roadway design process. Wetlands, streams, floodplains, and abundance of vegetation and wildlife are major natural resources within the study area. During the lifespan of this project Project Team members have spent many hours will be in the study area performing various environmental studies. Scientists placed orange flags around wetlands and biologists conducted surveys for threatened and endangered species and terrestrial habitat. The information collected was evaluated and used to further refine the alternatives being studied.
