PENNDOT District 9-0 has retained Greenhorne & O'Mara, Inc. (G&O) to conduct a Phase I and Phase II Alternatives Analysis, prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), and develop Preliminary Engineering for improvements to the 15-mile section of U.S. 219 between the northern terminus of the Meyersdale Bypass and the existing four-lane section of U.S. 219 near the Borough of Somerset.
The Project Team studied seven preliminary alternatives for improvements within the U.S. 219 corridor. These alternatives were presented to regulatory agencies for comment in October 2001 and to the public for review at the Public Meeting in December 2001. Click here for more detailed information on Phase I.
Based on comments received during these reviews, PENNDOT dismissed three alternatives from further study (Transportation System Management, Upgrade of Existing U.S. 219, and Corridor A).
The remaining four alternatives, as well as one additional alternative (C-1) developed from comments at the Public Meeting, are being studied in detail. The No Build Alternative, Corridor B, Corridor C, Corridor C-1, and Corridor D will be further refined, and impacts associated with each will be assessed. Click here for more detailed information on Phase II.
